Almost a year since the inaugural robotics hackathon and challenge was completed and demonstrated to industry experts and public, we are happy to see the continuation of the program under no other than MRANTI, an agency the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation, entrusted to drive the talent development and innovation in robotics serving the National Robotics Roadmap 2021 – 2030 (or NRR2030), https://mastic.mosti.gov.my/publication/national-robotics-roadmap-2021-2030/ . Continuing the success of the inaugural ROBOFUN ROBOTHON Industry Design Challenge in 2023, the program continues under MRANTI and selected universities that are passionate in developing talents and innovative solutions for the key industry as identified in NRR2030.
The Grand Robotics Engineering & Technology (GREAT) Challenge focuses on 3 main sectors as stipulated in the NRR2030 which are (1). Agriculture and Food Security, (2). Manufacturing, Warehousing and Logistics, and (3) Services in Healthcare, Retail and Education.

The GREAT Challenge 2024 was launched on 13 Sep 2024 during the Malaysia Commercialization Year (MCY) 2024 closing ceremony by the Deputy Minister of MOSTI.

The program is conducted over 2 phases; Phase 1: Robotics Weekend Hackathons at 6 universities – APU, UTP, UTAR, UTHM, UNISZA and UMPSA to selected 36 teams plus additional 14 teams through online submissions, and Phase 2: Prototyping Stage where teams will be trained on the SCUTTLE AMR platform and SCUTTLE Viam platform, idea to prototyping workshops in order to develop their ideas into a working prototypes. The pinnacle of the program is the Demo Day where 36 teams are selected to present their prototypes to industry judges.

The Demo Day 2025 that was held for the 2nd time at The Da Men Mall, Subang, and you can view the photos from the event here – https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNApK0uJdkmBVCtXsEwq85kctoa_TZS87lF42ayRekrdVMUK_9Kpdqcjn__D6GHow

Congratulations to team RoboBot from UTHM with their autonomous medicine delivery robot, called MacyBot, for the elderly patients at the care centre which they had the opportunity to test their 1st prototype at the center in Batu Pahat. The 2nd and 3rd places are from APU with their rubber tapping robot (Tech Pulse) and security robot at the mall (Fantastic4.0).
We look forward to see how these projects proceed beyond the prototype development stage into the Accelerated towards an MVP through LaunchX 2025 or similar program.
